Located in the heart of the Vallée d'Aspe, in Accous, Johann Lannegrand's "Faites pour Ailes" workshop is dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity. Here, Johann passionately makes handcrafted beehives and nesting boxes.
For the past few years, Johann has devoted himself to making bird nest boxes, small mammal nest boxes and beehives, using mainly local materials, notably wood from the valley sawmill.
I make my birdhouses and beehives in much the same way as I made my workshop. I started with the plans, and to design them, I based myself on the work of ornithologists. Then, based on this work, I created my own models, respecting the sizes of the chambers and openings so that they were perfectly adapted to the animals that were going to live in them. My nesting boxes are designed for small cavity-nesting and semi-cavity-nesting birds, as well as birds of prey, and I also make nesting boxes for hedgehogs and chiropterans.
He also offers nesting boxes in kit form for school groups, enabling children to make their own nesting boxes and make observations.
The idea behind my nesting boxes is to recreate the natural hiding places that animals used to find in the past, before we plastered walls or cut down old trees. This helps to bring biodiversity back close to our homes, creating a more interesting balance.
Johann joins Esprit parc national because he shares the park's values of preserving biodiversity.
Esprit parc national has enabled me to meet other craftsmen who share the same values as me. Today, I work with some of them, who are also members of the brand.
